Here is a list of things I’ve read or would like to read, places I often go to find recipes, etc. Some things I found myself and some things have been suggested to me. I’ll link directly to recipes in articles or other resources as often as possible, but if you don’t want to dig back through a whole bunch of posts for one link, I thought this might be a handy page. Send me stuff, and I’ll try to keep this updated.
Websites
- Wikipedia I like to use Wikipedia as a jumping-off point. If articles are referenced and I can track them back to a reliable source, I am comfortable using them.
- The old food.yahoo.com, which is now http://shine.yahoo.com/channel/food (and which I still use)
- foodnetwork.com
- Williams-sonoma.com (they have a mobile site as well – although I haven’t checked it out yet)
- http://www.westonaprice.org/chapters/ Weston Price Foundation (contact a local chapter in your state to find a farm)
- http://www.localharvest.org/ Local Harvest
- Yummly A website that sort of aggregates recipes from various other sites – you join and create a profile so that your allergies and preferences are remembered; your friends are called “tastebuds” so, if you’re like me and have no friends on the site, you are constantly reminded that you have “0 tastebuds”
Cookbooks I have
- Williams Sonoma Cookbook (hey, Mom, can I have this back, btw?)
- 30-Minute Get Real Meals (you’re right, it’s a Rachael Ray book – and I think it might belong to my mother-in-law)
- Best Quick Fixes
- About a year’s worth of Martha Stewart Living and Real Simple magazines & other miscellaneous recipes that have been given to me by my aunt and mom, and about a dozen healthy food magazines (there’s a variety, but I’ll cite the source if I use a recipe).
Some reading that I have done
- Sara Snow’s Fresh Living Sara Snow (this is more about living green than it is strictly about being vegetarian, but it’s in there)
- Easy Green Living Renee Loux (similar to the above)
- Fast Food Nation Eric Schlosser
- Every Woman’s Guide to Cycling Selene Yeager (this one isn’t about eating veggies…but it’s still a good read, and does emphasize the ability of anyone to change her habits)
- The Omnivore’s Dilemma Michael Pollan
Articles of interest
- http://shine.yahoo.com/channel/parenting/what-not-to-feed-your-baby-1979788 What not to feed your baby
Apps I use
- All Recipes Dinner Spinner
- Whole Foods app
Some suggested reading (that I haven’t done yet)
- What to Eat Marion Nestle (the Food Politics site is hers, above)
- Food Rules Michael Pollan
- Nourishing Traditions Sally Fallon
- Never Gymless Ross (a fitness book, but there is a chapter on nutrition)
Podcasts
- Michael Pollan: In Defense of Food American Museum of Natural History Podcast (search in iTunes–there’s actually a ton of free podcasts, and some audiobooks)
Some suggested movies
Some other resources
- Monterey Bay Aquarium has some tips on seafood: http://www.montereybayaquarium.org/cr/seafoodwatch.aspx
- www.stonyfield.com has info on the organic dairy
